📏 How Size It Up works
Compare a familiar object with a mystery figure and adjust the mystery until its scale looks right. Lock in your estimate to reveal the actual measurement and see how many points you earned. There are five rounds, with up to 100 points available in each.
Objects come from a mix of categories, including animals, landmarks, vehicles, and everyday items. The comparisons make abstract measurements easier to picture: for example, you might estimate how a whale compares with a bus or how a landmark compares with a building.
How to play
- Check the reference: use the known object as a guide for the mystery figure.
- Adjust the scale: drag the slider, use the − / + controls, or use the keyboard.
- Lock in: submit your estimate to reveal the actual measurement and score.
- Play five rounds: compare objects from different categories in each set.
- Review your results: see your total and track your personal bests.
Tips for closer estimates
- Estimate in simple ratios first: is the mystery about half as tall, twice as tall, or close to the reference?
- Compare both figures from the same baseline so their heights are easier to judge.
- Use each revealed answer to recalibrate your eye for the next round.

What is Size It Up?
Size It Up is a free game about estimating real-world size. Compare a mystery figure with a familiar reference, adjust its scale, then see how close you were. A game has five rounds and a maximum score of 500 points.
How big is a blue whale compared to a bus?
A blue whale can reach about 25–30 metres in length. A typical city bus is around 12 metres long, so a large whale may be a little over twice as long. Exact sizes vary by species and vehicle.
How tall is the Eiffel Tower compared to other monuments?
The Eiffel Tower is about 330 metres tall including its antennas. The Statue of Liberty is about 93 metres from the ground to the torch, making the tower roughly three and a half times taller.
How do I play?
Compare the known reference with the mystery figure. Adjust the mystery figure using the slider, the − and + controls, or your keyboard, then choose Lock In to see your estimate and score.
Do I need to know exact measurements to win?
No. Use the reference as a visual guide and make your best estimate. The closer your estimate is to the real measurement, the more points you earn.
Does it use metric or imperial units?
Yes. Use the unit control in the game header to switch between metric and imperial measurements.
How many rounds are in each game?
Each game has five comparisons. Choose Random × 5 to start a fresh set.
Is Size It Up free? Do I earn XP?
The game is free and does not require an account. Your best score and play statistics are saved in your browser. Completing a game can also add XP to your site profile.
How can I get better at estimating sizes?
Start by comparing the mystery figure with the reference in simple multiples: about half as tall, twice as tall, or roughly the same. Check where both figures meet the baseline, then use each revealed measurement to calibrate your next guess.
